At-Home Lab Testing - Health at your fingertips

At-Home Lab Testing (AHLT) is a new health tool developed by Biosurfit, a Portuguese company specializing in the development and production of health solutions for the laboratory testing market, dedicated to providing medical diagnostic services. AHLT aims to be an alternative that allows users to be more attentive to their health. It is a new concept that makes it possible for a person to take a test and subsequently receive the results without leaving home.

This innovative concept consists of creating a blood collection kit that requires a simple finger prick. Unlike a clinical analysis, which involves scheduling an appointment and obtaining a prescription for blood collection, as well as a subsequent visit to a collection point, the user can purchase their At-Home Lab Testing online and receive it directly in the comfort of their home.

The ALT kit consists of a quick start guide, collection tube, alcohol wipe, lancets, gauze compress, bandages, label, and shipping envelope for the laboratory. After collecting the sample, simply send the kit by mail or through the At-Home Lab Testing collection service and wait 24 to 48 hours for the laboratory results, which are sent by email. Throughout the process, the user also has access to a telephone support service where they can ask any questions to a healthcare professional.

There are different types of kits, associated with various areas of health. The tests available on the At-Home Lab Testing platform range from €15 to €90, and it is possible to perform, for example: Diabetes tests, Cholesterol Panel, Heart Health Test, Thyroid Panel and Kidney Panel, Ovarian Reserve and Fertility in the case of Women, or testing of PSA levels of the prostate in Men.

We have been working on innovative projects in the area of ​​digital health care for over 15 years and, with the creation of this testing model, we want to give the population the opportunity to have their clinical analyses done remotely, easily and conveniently.” The Director of Biosurfit also adds that “We are talking about a reliable process that already exists in several countries around the world such as the United States, the United Kingdom, Spain or France and with a huge success rate, and we believe that Portugal will follow these steps and soon embark on a new digital era of health for all.”

To develop the innovative At-Home Lab Testing kit, 642 tests were conducted on 100 different patients, analyzing a total of 34 clinical parameters, comparing the at-home collection method versus the traditional collection method, in order to guarantee the highest standards of safety and reliability in the results. This process was carried out between Biosurfit and its partner laboratory, Labocentro, a certified laboratory that undergoes rigorous quality controls where all issued results are reviewed and validated by its clinical staff.
